The King James Bible   Leave a comment

History video and documentary on the King James Bible: Four centuries ago a book was published that the presenter of this documentary thinks was the greatest work of English prose ever written. Today a lot of people consider it old fashioned, impenetrable, from a turbulent but largely forgotten age. It has sold billions of copies since it was published in 1611, some people call it the authorised version of the Bible but its better known by its nickname: the King James Bible.

17th century England was a chaotic, violent often bureaucratic place, the most unlikely beginnings for a book that would change the world. So how did they make it happen? In this program the present looks back to a world of religious pomp and majesty, of immense seriousness and linguistic skill. Fraught with religious and political passion, to show how and why it produced the greatest book of all time.
